Mother/Daughter Banquet
April 16, 2011
"Company Girls"
On Saturday, April 16 we held a Mother/Daughter Banquet and the theme was "Company Girls" which are all the girls and women who have had an influence on our lives. Donna Dummer and Christie Brown we the co-chairs of this event. We had close to 200 participants. One family had five generations with them. Before dinner Mary Ouret took family pictures in a little "studio" she set up. The Men's Cooking Group cooked a fantastic meal and it was served family style. After dinner we went up to the sanctuary for our program - a skit performed by Erin Marcks, Mary Ouret, and Jill Strunk about all the "baggage" we carry around everyday. Then we had different groups of women who told us about the special "girls" in their lives. It was a fantastic evening.
Crop Walk Recap
A big thank you to all who walked or sponsored a walker on the Crop Walk. We had a fantastic turn out with 48 walkers. The day was overcast but a pleasant temperature for the walkers. It was so nice to have multiple generations walking together. It is hard to imagine walking that far to get water for your daily needs. Although the final figure is not ready, we raised somewhere around $2,800 for hunger. The totals for the whole community are waiting for the figures from the correctional facility and some matching grants to be turned in to the committee. The correctional facility walked after our walk and had several marching grants. We did a great job! Thank you everyone!! - Christie Brown and Jane Baker
