DAY CAMP/VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2008

BEACH PARTY: SURFIN’ THROUGH THE SCRIPTURES

July 28 – August 1, 2008 29 children, 6 youth and 8 adults gathered at First United Methodist Church starting at 9:00 am and ending at 2:00 pm each day for singing, a Bible story, prayer, crafts, recreation and discovery time.  Women of the church provided a daily snack at 10:30 am.  Everyone brought a lunch to eat each day except Thursday, July 30th when we all went to Colvill Pool and had a pool party with lunch provided.

The themes were Be Obedient with the Bible story about the Call of Gideon in Judges 6:14-15, 36-7:21; Be Kind was illustrated by David’s kindness to Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9:1-11; Be Forgiving we learned to sign forgive and heard a parable of the Unforgiving Servant Matthew 18:21-33; Be Bold like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was healed Luke 8:40-48; Believe we listened to the story of Jesus and Thomas in John 20:24-29.

We all learned five scripture memory verses and many new songs of which we shared two on Sunday morning following Day Camp/VBS with the congregation during worship.  We also displayed our crafts in Hamline Foyer.

Thank you, to the entire congregation for your support and to the children, youth, adults and parents.  We raised $158.00 for Heifer Project Milk Menagerie.

Youth go to Summer Camp

Pastor Wayne Walther, Ann Correll, and our youth and confirmands went on a combined Service Camp and Rock Climbing Adventure July 13 - 18, 2008.  They had great weather and a really good time.  They helped pack food at Feed My Starving Children in Brooklyn Park and they packed boxes of food at Second Harvest in Minneapolis; they went to the Crystal Care Center and helped weed, water, mow and clean the lounge areas; and then went rock climbing and walking the high ropes at the end of the week.  Below are pictures showing what a good time they had.

Youth Bike Ride

On Cannon Valley Trail

May 18, 2008 some of our youth along with parents, friends, and adults from our congregation gathered with their bicycles and rode to Welch and back on the Cannon Valley Trail.  The weather was perfect and they enjoyed a potluck picnic lunch at Welch.

Youth Go To The Farm

On Sunday, April 6, 2008 our youth and Pastor Wayne went out to Hilde Schmitt's farm for fun and games.  They were going to clean out bird houses, look for deer antlers, and go for a hike.  It turned out to be a chilly, rainy day, so instead they built a campfire and roasted marshmallows.

Not so sure about the Outhouse!
